Windermere taking donations of warm clothing for locals in need Timelines: News
Each month, I send out an email to local businesses whose email addresses we have on file, letting them know which businesses are celebrating a business anniversary that month.
I also let our readers know by putting it in this column along with how many years they have been in business in Crook County. If you are a business and not currently receiving those emails, but would like to, you can contact Patty McManus at 541-447-6205 and be added. You can also check with Patty to make sure that we have your business anniversary in our files.
We show only four businesses celebrating a anniversary this month, one of which is the Central Oregonian. This month marks the 132-year anniversary of publishing local news for the community.
Michael J. Mohan has been preparing individual and business taxes for 30 years this month. There will be a feature story about Mike later this month.
Sunrise Pools & Spas, LLC may be located in Prineville, but they have been providing sales and service to Central Oregon for 23 years this month.
Last, but certainly not least is the Pine Theater, who reopened for business six years ago this week after being closed for more than 20 years.
My parents moved our family here in 1977 and I remember going to the movies in town, either at the drive-in or the Pine Theater and wish that we still had both here today. Watching a movie from your car with speakers hanging on the side window, eating pizza, and falling asleep in the back seat is something my children have never and probably will never experience. But thanks to the Mehrabis and the support they have received from the community, we still have a movie theater that shows first run movies. There may not be 16 movies to choose from to watch, but if your family is anything like mine, we would all want to watch a different movie and end up in several movie theaters and not together. So I see having limited choices as a good thing.
I cannot tell you how many times a friend, or someone in the family, has called on what was looking to be a lazy Sunday and said that a movie was starting in an hour. We get moving. I pull my hair into ponytail, throw on a pink CCHS Wrestling cap, and meet up for an afternoon movie. Obviously, I like having the convenience of a theater in town. I also appreciate that a family of four can watch a movie, have popcorn, pop, and a candy for considerably less (see sidebar, The Hobbitt) than driving to Bend for the same movie.

In partnership with nonprofit organizations in their communities, three Windermere Real Estate offices in Central Oregon are hosting Windermere’s annual “Share the Warmth” coat and blanket drive. Now through Dec. 20, you can help your neighbors in need by donating coats, blankets and other warm items.
You can donate new or gently used and laundered coats (for children and adults) and blankets to any of the Windermere offices. In addition, the offices in Bend and Redmond are collecting other warm items, such as sleeping bags, scarves, gloves/mittens, hats and socks. Donated items will be distributed to those in need by Family Access Network in Bend and Redmond, The Shepherd’s House in Bend, and Crook County Children and Senior Services. Donations can be made locally at Windermere/Swifterra Mon. — Fri. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., they are located at 150 N.W. Fourth St. in Prineville.
